Clewiston Florida, America's Sweetest Town
Clewiston Florida, sweetest little town in America
Clewiston Florida,a town of only 6,500 residents and being located at the gateway to Lake Okeechobee has become known as the sweetest little town in America. Located 60 miles from both the east and west coast of Florida , it lies smack dab in the middle of nowhere, and has become a favorite rest stop of the traveler, justifiably so, as there isn't a restaurant or gas station with 50 miles of the place.
The Lake Okeechobee area, of course, is the largest attraction. With more than 730 square miles of water is the second largest freshwater lake in the United States. Along with being the premier large mouth bass fishing spot in the entire world, it is home to over 40 other species of fish, such as blue gill, catfish, and black crappie. Other activities such as hiking, camping, picnicking, boating and bird watching makes this a sportsman's paradise.
In addition, Clewiston is in the heart of Florida's sugar industry, thus the name "Sweetest Little Town in America". The U. S. Sugar Corporation now the nation's largest producer of raw and refined cane sugar has it's headquarters in the community.
