Australia:Quinkan Hotel Located in Laura,Queensland Australia
Quinkan Hotel sign, Queensland Australia
The Quinkan Hotel is located in the very tiny town of Laura, not far from the Laura River. Quinkan County was named after the Aboriginal spirits or ''Quinkans" who inhabit the sand stone bluffs at White Horse Gallery. This gallery contains one of the world's most significant rock art displays. The town also hosts the b i-annual Laura Aboriginal Dance Festival, one of the most spectacular displays of aboriginal dance and culture any where. Having been fortunate enough to have been able to attend this two day festival, if one is interested in ancient aboriginal culture.I can attest to the fact that it is well worth one's time to attend.

This looks like a nice, quaint corner of Australia! I'm planning a cross-Australian trip, maybe I'll try and come during the festival. I'm really interested in aboriginal and First Nations culture, so I think I'll have a blast there!

It was an interesting time, the festival is held in June.I was there in 1989, so you might want to check to see if everything is still on the same schedule.
